They kicked off the show with a nod to Mad Max Fury Road and I’m pretty sure the epic meter exploded. It was insane. The whole show was filmed on the Warner Brothers back lot so the production value was off the charts. There was a flaming guitar in the opening sequence! Enough said. Kevin and DJ poked fun at each other including Kevin calling The Rock a Chocolate Shrek and him coming right back at Kevin by telling him that he looked like he starred in The Hip-Hop Hobbit. There were some low blows, but two throwback photos took the cake. Pun intended. They had me cracking up the whole show. But we need to talk about Halsey who took the stage for an epic performance of “Castle.” It was beautiful. The royalty vibes were alive and well with a crown platform onstage and magical snow that took me straight to winter wonderland. But the royalty vibes didn’t stop there. Speaking of performances, Ariana Grande looked like Hollywood royalty when she stepped out to sing a retro rendition of “Dangerous Woman.” I’m sorry, did we die and go to Heaven? Cus Ariana sounded like an angel. I have chills. This next performance gave me a different type of chill. The type of chill that comes with fear. A lot like the type of fear Leonardo DiCaprio fictionally felt when being attacked by a bear in The Revenant. Kevin and The Rock made a rap about it along with mentions about other top movies of 2016 and needless to say it was uncomfortably amazing. Dropping the uncomfortable though and sticking with the amazing, was when the cast of Straight Outta Compton took the stage to accept their award for best True Story film and they took a brilliant jab at the Oscars for shunning them. An award well-deserved. Ryan Reynolds also walked away with some golden popcorn tonight after winning best comedic performance for Deadpool, but it was his introduction that really took this moment over the top. Salt and Pepa were there and there were little deadpools scaling the walls! It was crazy. But the crazy didn’t stop there because Seth Rogen stepped out with Zac Efron looking a little beefier than usual. Zac then proceeded to apologize to Seth’s junk for unexpected shrinkage due to his muscle gain. Yep... But keeping the train chuggin’ was the Lonely Island’s tribute to Will Smith taking us all the way back to his Fresh Prince days. Will received the Generation Award for his iconic career and hit us with some comedic relief. And the funny didn’t stop there because Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine won Best
