02.12.2016
Hi there, Tegan Lawson with you at the CarAdvice News Desk, this week we’re on location at Sydney Motorsport Park for MotorWorld Sydney. Here’s what’s making news this week. The Takata airbag global scandal continues with Subaru forced to recall more than 34,000 vehicles. The model-year 2008 and 2009 Impreza and the model-year 2009 Forester have been affected. Four versions of the 2017 Ford Fiesta range have been revealed in Europe including a new active crossover model, a sporty looking ST-line, a luxury focused variant and the top-spec Titanium trim level. Alpina is now officially on sale in Australia. The German tuning company has launched its 4 Series based B4 BiTurbo. There’s a sporty BMW i3 on the way. Reports out of Europe claim the 2018 update will mark the arrival of a new flagship model, the i3S. The 2017 Hyundai i30 Tourer wagon has been spotted testing in Germany this week. The heavily camouflaged vehicle should be revealed at a motor show next year but won’t be made available in Australia. The unique Morgan three-wheeler will remain on sale in Australia, after concerns that proposed changes to the Australian Design Rules would render it unable to be registered. After a submission to the Federal Department of Transport, Morgan has been re-certified as compliant. Work is underway on the next generation Lotus Elise. However, it’s still a few years away yet, due to hit the market in 2020. Based on the 2011 concept, a picture of the production version of the Kia GT has been leaked online. Meantime, Kia is hoping the Sorento could replace the Ford Territory on Victorian and Queensland police fleets. The battle between genuine and non-genuine parts is heating up. The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association will launch a campaign discussing ‘the truth about genuine parts’. Mercedes-Benz and Nissan have been vocal in their support of genuine parts. The US Department of Transportation has outlined new guidelines for a mobile phone driver mode to help reduce driver distraction on the road. And after keeping us guessing and highly amused all week, the mystery SUV has been named. It’s not a movie prop or a Lamborghini, it’s a Volkswagen Amarok and it’s all part of an upcoming marketing campaign. ------------------------------------------------------------- CarAdvice.com is where Australians turn to for the most comprehensive independent reviews of new cars.
