Hi there, welcome to the CarAdvice Garage. I’m Tegan Lawson with a look at what’s making news headlines this week. A boxer birthday bash is in full swing, the hurry to join the hybrid race, and Porsche powers up – but first, there have been reports of a major merger. Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have signed an agreement that will see Nissan hold a 34 per cent equity stake at a cost of 237 billion yen. It comes as the fuel economy saga continues with Mitsubishi Motors admitting nine vehicles currently on sale in Japan have incorrect fuel economy ratings. Toyota Australia’s design team has been credited with helping to light a spark in the belly of its Japanese parent company. It’s all thanks to the Toyota 86 Shooting Brake that was designed Down Under. Jaguar has issued a recall for 66 of its 2017 XE sedans over concerns the seat belt pre-tensioner may not operate correctly in the event of an accident. Meantime, Performax International is recalling a number of imported American pick-up trucks. Subaru is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the boxer engine and has also announced a special edition WRX in honour of 50,000 sales of the model in Australia. Hyundai is exploring plug-in hybrid drivetrain options that will be used in Genesis models and some Hyundai badged vehicles. While McLaren has announced plans to triple sales by 2022 and says it will introduce 15 new models. McLaren is also developing plug-in hybrid technology. A few spy shots came in this week. The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camarao was spotted at the Nurburgring in Germany, as was the Mercedes-AMG E63 wagon and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Porsche has unveiled a new twin-turbocharged V8 engine that will be used in the Panamera Turbo and Cayenne Turbo as well as potentially under the bonnets of Bentley, Lamborghini and Audi models. Mahindra will bring the XUV500 W10 to Australia later this year, and Holden has announced the Colorado 7 will be axed in favour of the Trailblazer SUV. And two Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio sedans have joined the rank of the Carabinieri – Italy’s military police force. More news and review at CarAdvice.com.
