Triops cancriformis 67 days after hatching
Triops cancriformis between 1.5 and 2.5 cm, 67 days after hatching... and many water changes later. These crustaceans lay eggs in temporary pools. The eggs have to hatch out, and the triops have to mature, and lay more eggs before the pools of water dry up. The eggs can remain, dormant, for years, waiting for more rain to start the cycle all over again. Triops cancriformis is native to Europe, but in Britain there are now very few areas where triops can be found.
