NFL “NO TV ANNOUNCERS GAME” ALL TD’S NYJ vs MIA Dec 20, 1980 HD
CLASSIC SPORTS PLAYLIST http://tinyurl.com/jn8x2or On December 20, 1980, NBC Sports intentionally broadcast a late-season NFL game with no TV commentators. The AFC East rivals New York Jets upset the Miami Dolphins 24-17 in the Orange Bowl in Miami, FL in a game with no playoff implications. The game became known as “The Announcerless Game”, “The No Announcers Game”, or “The No TV Announcers Game”. The Orange Bowl’s public address announcer, Bob Kaufman, provided more information. More field microphones, TV graphics, and pre-recorded player and coach interviews were used. NBC Sports Bryant Gumble occassionally gave the TV audience recaps after commerical breaks from the sidelines. The one-time experiment was the idea of NBC Sports Executive Producer, Don Ohlmeyer.
