[TV ZONE] Embracing the Magnificent View of Seoul, Samgaksan HD
Samgaksan Mountain is the summit of Bukhansan Mountain and is made up of three peaks: Baegundae (836.5m), Insubong (810.5m), and Mangyeongdae (787.0m). These biotite granite peaks, formed in the late Jurassic period, are beautiful granite domes of different shapes that make wonderful natural scenery. The slopes of the domes are angled at more than 70 degrees. At the top of Baegundae Peak there is a flat area of around 500 square meters that is a popular spot for hikers and tourists. Mangyeongdae Peak used to be called Gungmangbong Peak and is rugged at the top. Because Samgaksan Mountain is so beautiful, it has from the past attracted many people. There is a legend that says Onjo and Biryu, sons of King Dongmyeong of Goguryeo, came down south, and reaching Hansan, they climbed Buaak Mountain looking for a settlement site. Buaak refers to Samgaksan Mountain, or specifically, Insubong Peak. According to another tale, when the Buddhist priest Muhak was traveling around the country looking for a place to locate the new capital of Joseon, he walked from Baegundae Peak to Mangyeongdae Peak and then southwest from here to Bibong Peak. There he found a memorial stone that said "Muhak lost his way and reached this spot," so he changed his course and came down the mountain and chose the site of Gyeongbokgung Palace . Samgaksan Mountain is also famous for the verse left behind by the scholar and official Kim Sang-heon as he was dragged off to China in the 2nd Manchu Invasion during Joseon: "Good-bye Samgaksan Mountain, See you again Hangang River..."
