[TV ZONE] Spring Songs in Juryeon of Changdeokgung Palace HD
One will notice the series of Chinese phrases written on each pillar while walking through the Rear Garden of Changdeokgung Palace. What do these phrases mean and why are they there? The decorative plaques are called juryeon, a large board carved with poetic phrases. It is said to have originated from a tradition where drawings and phrases were glued to peach tree panels to rid bad luck. Similar to sticking ibchundaegil(literally, the new spring shall bring great luck) talisman on the door in spring. Juryeon is usually about the beauties of nature, the virtues of a fine ruler, and other matters. Seems the nobles liked to remind themselves of the righteous path in life even during their walking the garden. How about reflecting old wisdom while you admire the fresh green sprouts covering Changdeokgung Palace this spring? Website: www.cdg.go.kr
