Betty Makoni launches United Nations Day of the Girl Child at Our Lady`s Convent in London HD
Keep your one meter space and never allow men and boys to violate you. One meter away girls and books first and babies later. (Please note this is not full coverage of the whole speech of Betty Makoni. This is the final stage of the launch of the day and a little ceremony reciting poems for girls in Africa by girls in London) The day started at 11 am in the Religious and Moral Values department whose Head is Mrs Price. Betty Makoni has established strong ties with the school because of her background attending all Catholic girls schools in Zimbabwe. On this day when she returned the school is revamped and is new. She thought if a government can build such a state of the art school and support girls to learn in such friendly environment then in all fairness this is great leadership. Betty Makoni chose to be at Our Lady`s convent to have a closed door event with the girls as her background is such that she believes reaching out to one girl at a time and grooming more leaders has greater future impact. On this day she inspired girls to grow into big women leaders and occupy positions to ensure protection of vulnerable girls . She shared her personal story of being raped as a child and growing up as an orphan. She told girls their past should not hold them back from achieving in the future. She told them an opportunity to be educated is presented to them and they must grab it. She said life is led by each individual girl with help of others. She said she is seriously considering registering for A level ,much to laughter from girls. The next stage is after Betty Makoni`s inspirational speech, the girls have formed a committee to organise the UN Day of the girl child in 2013. Girl Child Network Worldwide will bring 10 girls in Africa to share their stories of achievement and spend a weeklong tour of UK and also attending a 2 day leadership academy for girls.
