Venezuela FM: NAM to focus on US sanctions
(22 Jul 2019) Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said a working group of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) would consider denouncing sanctions imposed by the United States in what he termed "economic terrorism". "Maybe we will go to the International Court of Justice, to denounce, as Iran did, to denounce, to ask for legal opinion and legal interpretation, on the decisions regarding economic terrorism that the United States of America has been taking," he said. Arreaza made the statement during a press conference at the conclusion of the NAM forum held in Caracas, where he said the working group would also focus year round on "how countries face and overcome the effect of these sanctions." The Movement on Sunday urged the US to immediately lift the economic and financial sanctions it has imposed on Venezuela. The group rejected a foreign intervention in the South American country and reiterated its commitment to channel the Venezuelan government and opposition to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in the country.
