‍♂️Can I go out? ‍♀️— An Englishman on classroom language HD

I constantly tell my uni & private students that we should be critical of the English we are/were taught since there are things which only Russians say when they speak English. It must be a hangover from the Soviet era or lack of language exposure‍♂ As you can probably imagine, apart from “hometask”, “AT the lesson” & “form” we also get the usage of “Can I go out?” a bit wrong. I knew there was smth odd about it back in my school era, so I did a deep dive with this phrase & it turned out I was right I know it’s pretty much a daunting task to unlearn certain (meanings of some) misunderstood/non-existent phrases in English but it’s worth it if you’re looking to speak as authentic as possible & striving to be a class act. In this short video my English travel buddy Ciaran shares a few phrases the English would use instead of “Can I go out?” when asking a teacher to leave the classroom.
