Der Tag Ist Vergangen - N. P. Rakov - ABRSM 2017-18 Grade 3 Piano C2. PRACTICE TIPS. The notes themselves in this piece are not difficult, but to get a good mark in an ABRSM exam you will need good tonal control, and an expressive performance. Pedalling should be done carefully to avoid smudging harmonies - always lift the pedal in time with when you play the new chord at the end of the pedal marking. Be careful too that there are no "bumps" in the music, the translation of the title "The Day is Ended" suggests something quite reflective, with no surprises. For example the parts with crossing hands (e.g. bars 9 & 10) should sound like one continuous sound with no accents or gaps (0:32). Try also to experiment with a little rubato, play this video through a few times and see if you can detect where there are some ever so small moments of holding back the tempo, particularly at the ends of phrases.
