Live Piano Masterclass German Dance in B Flat - Beethoven - Grade 3 Piano ABRSM 2017/18 A3. PRACTICE TIPS The tempo for this piece should be sufficient for it to feel like a dance, although the metronome mark is for a crotchet, you could feel this as a "one in a bar" type of beat. Articulation is key to making a dance like performance - Observe the "wedge signs" with a neat staccato and be careful to lift the second note on each of the slurred pairs making sure the chord in the other hand releases at the same time so that the rests are observed. If you look carefully at the opening theme it is like a question and answer between the hands, so you could reflect this by giving a little more weight to the hand with the tune at that point. Finally - a common mistake I have found with some of my students is to miss out the rest at the ends of phrases e.g. bars 16 and 32 and thus lose a whole beat going onto the next section. Be careful that you do this. Grade 3 ABRSM Piano Videos available Sonatina in G - G. F.
