Brotherhood in Islam | Hassan Irawany HD
Lecture given by Hassan Irawany on the occasion of the Martyrdom of Imam Al-Sadiq (as) at AIM on 26/05/2022. - We call ourselves the Ithna Ashari Jafari school of thought. Do we actually apply these teachings that the imam has given us? - We can say there are four main aspects to building a strong brotherhood - 1. hifdh al karamah (preserving dignity): Imam Sadiq (as) says : Whoever follows the faults of a believer, Allah will search for his fault and will expose him even if he is in his own home. - We must understand that our fellow brothers make mistakes as we are fallible and just as we see peoples mistakes we can also say they can see ours. The important thing is to not propagate others mistakes with one’s tongue. Apply to ourselves first. Be in a position to safeguard our brothers and have each others backs. Let’s say we get to a stage where you do tell about the mistakes of others, the Imam (as) says: Whoever narrates a narration about a believer by which he intends to disgrace him so that he falls from the eyes of the people, Allah will lower him from his state to the Shaytan at which point the Shaytan wouldn’t even accept him; to that extent. We have the state of Allah and the state of the Shaytan; the state of Allah being heaven and all the good that encompasses this life and the afterlife, and we have the state of Shaytan, hell. We have to make a decision for ourselves as to which state we want and which wilayah we want. - We have to also understand that it is the wilayah of the Shaytan we are attracted to without us knowing. How? An example of this is in the work space, when you tell your manager about a coworker who made a mistake to look better. We have to be careful. Your brother comes first and foremost. - Imam Ali (as) says a person is either your brother in faith or equal in humanity; Apply to ourselves first. - 2. Husn al surah; Islam is very specific. Islam gets involved when it comes to the inner thoughts. Islam doesn’t want you to simply praise or conceal mistakes, even within your own thoughts and heart Islam gets involved. These inner thoughts you have about people making mistakes are also not allowed and We should take away these thoughts. - Surah al-Hujaraat, Ayah 12: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اجْتَنِبُوا كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعْضَ الظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ - Suspicious nature must be avoided - Imam Sadiq (as) says deny yourself negative hearing and sight about your brother even if fifty people come and swear about him and say he did something else, believe him and not them. - Carry your brother on 70 loads of goodness, give him 70 excuses; more than 50 people. We find it difficult to find 10 and Islam is telling us to find 70. - Surah al-Tawbah, Ayah 61: Was revealed in regards to a situation that happened with the Prophet (s) where Abdullah ibn Abi Salul, one of the munafiqeen, was told by the Prophet (s) that Jibraeel told him that Abdullah ibn Abi Salul was a munafiq, to which he said don’t listen to him,
