There are many practical uses for this kind of embroidery: pillowcases, handkerchiefs, wedding favors, wedding invitations,… In this tutorial I demonstrate how to embroider letter A step-by-step from tracing the pattern to different types of stitches. There are many ways to transfer a pattern onto your fabric, but my favorite way (also the easiest way) is using iPad. I found a pattern for floral A that I love on YouTube and took a screenshot; then I used a water soluble pencil to trace the pattern to my fabric. For beginners, there are some basic embroidery stitches for basic shapes that you should know. For example, to outline a shape you should know straight stitch, stem stitch, and outline stitch. To fill a shape, back stitches, long/short stitches, and brick stitches are mostly used. To make a rose, use woven stitches. To make a leaf, use fishbone stitches. And how do you learn these basic stitches? Just type in the stitching style of your interest in YouTube, there are many detailed tutorials showing you step by step. All you need to invest are hoops, threads, and fabric. Happy embroidering!
