[SHOTS: Otto, Corlys, Alicent] Most of this episode features everyone angling around the King like it’s the first act of Richard the Third. [CLIP: McKellen as Richard]. Lord Corlys Valaryon is the only one taking the Crab Feeder threat seriously. [CLIP: Corlys Valaryon] The Master of Ships and Lord of Driftmark (also known as the “Sea Snake”) has good reason to be upset, because this threat affects him and his lands directly. He wants the King to allow him to take drastic action. [CLIP: Corlys wants to seize the Stepstones] Viserys doesn’t want war with the Free Cities; it’s never happened before. [CLIP: Beesbury explains what would happen in open war with Free Cities] As Corlysa says in this episode, his family is the only othe rhouse to escape the dom of Valyria. And because they hail form essos, he’s not a pasty white guy like all the other lords of westeros. He rules an island called the ddriftmark, which is between Dragonstone and King’s landing. Corlys doesn’t take this rejection well, but he’s nice enough to let us all know that Prince Daemon Targaryen [CLIP: Matt Smith as Daemon] has taken control of Dragonstone and fortified it with the Gold Cloaks. You’ll likely remember Dragonstone from Thrones, it was used as a stronghold by Stannis “Father of the Year Baratheon” [CLIP: Stannis on Dragonstone] as well as Daenerys Targaryen. [CLIP: Dany on Dragonstone]. In Martin’s lore, it became the home of House Targaryen after Daenys foresaw the Doom of Valyria and got out of dodge. Those who left brought several dragons with them, but only Balerion the Black Dread survived. The dragons Meraxes and Vhagar were hatched there, and the castle of Dragonstone was built and shaped with Valyr
