Downhill Mountain Biking Massanutten Bike Park Virginia HD

People always talk about the Appalachian Trail. I never thought much about it until a friend of mine sent me an article highlighting some of the best trails on the East Coast in Virginia where she lives. National Geographic highlighted the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia as a must ride destination. The Blue Ridge Mountains stretch from Georgia the whole way up to Pennsylvania and are nestled into the larger stretch of the Appalachian Mountains– who knew?. Our plan this weekend was to access them in Virginia. So we headed down to Harrisonburg to visit an old friend and ride some rocks. It rained all day Saturday, so we skipped our warm-up ride at Hillsdale Park, and headed straight up to Massanutten Bike Park on Sunday morning. Check out the lifts- the only thing that’s secured here is your front wheel. It’s crazy how every bike park has its own system. And they all take a little practice to get just right. We took a couple of runs on the lower green and blue trails here. Then took the second lift up to the very top of the mountain which sits at close to 4,000 feet altitude. Perfect for an awesome view and enough oxygen to still enjoy your day of riding. According to the guys in the shop, the order of the day should go like this. First Creamy. This is a jumpline trail and because of its name, we obviously expected it to be smooth. We were wrong. Next up – Crunchy. Crunchy did live up to its name for sure. Crunchy’s corners were really tight. We expected to get a lot more runs in than we did, but the lifts were insanely slow. I’m not sure if they had them slowed down for the scenic view ticket holders or what. But we were there from open to close and ate our lunch on the lifts, and I still got screwed and wasn’t able to try out the all or nuttin trail. I did get to hop onto Worldcup though. This is where I learned there is a big difference between advanced and expert. I definitely watched videos of guys coming down this trail, but as usual – these go pros really flatten things out and downplay what we’re riding. This trail was way too wild for me to be on with a 130mm trail bike. I walked the big rock gardens for sure. This trail was part of the World Cup Series back in 1997. And of course I made it out the bottom of the trail only to bite it in the gravel on the freaking fire road under the lift. Ha. Oh well. I busted my shoulder pretty good too. This meant we would up going to Hillsdale Park the next day and pushed Reddish knob off to the last day. Everyone at the mountain was so friendly. We were surprised to see how many families were there for the day just to take the lift up and hike together. The little kids were so excited watching the mountain bikers. We got so many waves and even a high five from a little guy who watched us come down from the lift above. I wish I had gotten that on camera. Check in with us next week for our ride at Hillsdale. Hit that subscribe button for us. And as always- thanks for watchin’ – catch ya next time!
