The Prayer (Cover) HD

I would like to tell the story behind the popular song “ The Prayer” for those who are unaware of it. ‘ The Prayer ‘ is a remarkable song that has the signature of four great musical maestros on the lyrics and composing part; Grammy Award winning songwriter and producer David Foster from Canada, Grammy award winner Carole Bayer Sager from the USA, renowned Italian composer, lyricist, singer, and writer for television (May his soul RIP. He passed away in 2009) and yet another popular Italian Alberto Testa, who is a singer, composer, songwriter, music producer and movie actor. Originally "The Prayer" was recorded as two separate solo versions; the English version by world renowned Canadian singer Celine Dion and the Italian version by visually challenged Italian classical tenor Andrea Bocelli. The song, later on, was converted into a duet with the introductory verse in English by Celine, followed by verses partly in Italian and partly in English by Celine and Andrea, and with a crescendo in Italian, which was debuted in the 1998 Hollywood animated film ‘Quest for Camelot ‘. The makers of the song bagged a Golden Globe for the Best Original Song. Since then, this song has been translated into many languages, and recorded by multiple artists. This classical song, is a musical prayer appealing for God’s guidance and protection, as our days go by in this world of insecurity, plunged in darkness. I was totally captivated by the English lyrics and chord progression of the song when I listened to it through the net, a couple of years ago. Recently I heard the song again and decided to adapt it in F Major. Having ‘zero’ knowledge of Italian language, I pulled out the Italian verses from the lyrics, wrote a third verse and concluding two lines for the song in English. Fourteen days ago, a dear friend of mine, Walid Abdul Wahab, originally from Alexandria, with whom I have worked in Kuwait, invited me to his home studio in Salwa near Messilah in Kuwait, to have a music jamming session. In the serene ambiance set by Walid, first I played the chords for ‘ The Prayer’ on the Electric Guitar. The voice recording session then took place. On the spot, the musical genius Walid composed the bass guitar, the lead guitar, the strings and the piano accompaniments, and finally a drum rhythm pattern for the song. He worked on it further, swapped the strings to choir voices, mixed the orchestration with my vocal and here is the final outcome. I do not rate myself to be a great singer. I do not claim this rendition flawless either. However, when I sang “ The Prayer”, I felt that it was coming from the innermost recesses of my heart as an earnest appeal to God to guide me through the stormy seas in this world to the eternal shore of serenity. Let me borrow the songwriter David Foster’s words “ All the melodies are swirling around the Universe, and the best songs come through you, and not from you”. His message is loud and clear.
