First Colloquium on Archeology and Restoration Mexico-Cambodia Dr. Guillermo de Anda, director of the Great Mayan Aquifer Project, underwater cave explorer and collaborator of the National Geographic Society and researcher at the National Institute of Anthropology and History INAH We will talk about the research that he has been developing during the last 25 years in the Yucatan peninsula, with a special emphasis on the multidisciplinary work carried out by the Gran Acuifero Maya project. The presentation will deal with some investigations in dry and flooded caves, among others, the Balamku cave and the Holtun cenote in Chichen Itzá, the Chihuohol cenote and Manitas cave in Yucatán, among others. Dr. Guillermo de Anda will also discuss issues related to the preservation of the Great Mayan Aquifer and plans to integrate this important karst area as a UNESCO mixed heritage of humanity. Emphasizing the importance of the new discipline of Mayan cave archeology, and the need to develop theoretical and methodological approaches to investigate and protect this important underground area.
