Russia Will Modernization BTR-80 Armored Vehicles to extend the operating life HD

The Russian army needs new armored personnel carriers, and therefore in a short time this project was made, a machine with a different powertrain. In the same year in the series put the car with the name BTR-80M. He received Yaroslavl YAMZ-238M2 diesel with a capacity of 240 HP, YAMZ-236Н gearbox and KEY 126 tire. Reducing engine power caused a slight decrease in mobility characteristics. However, replacement of power units is allowed to maintain production. At the end of 1993, KAMAZ had restarted engine production, and soon succeeded in starting production of BTR-80 in the initial configuration. I am working on the radical modernization of weapons complexes. In the basic version of BTR-80 carrying towers with KPVT and PKT machine guns, the characteristics considered were not enough to overcome all the challenges that emerged. In 1994, the service received the BTR-80A which was modernized with a cannon and a bppu-1 machine gun tower. The BTR-80A is different from the hull design which is reinforced with basic machines, related high loads when shooting. Integrated CPU-1 product monitors diagrams; on the tower dock hung block with 2A72 30 mm automatic pistol and 7.62 mm PKT machine gun. Next to it is an ammunition box and smoke grenade launcher. Gun ammunition includes 300 bullets, machine guns - 2000 bullets. Installing new weapons increases the range and effectiveness of shots. The KPVT machine gun can destroy labor and unprotected equipment at distances of up to 2 km, while the 2A72 cannon at this distance is able to hit light and armored targets. The range of labor has increased to 4 km. An interesting complex repair of weapons has been implemented in the BTR-80S project, which was designed for the Ministry of Interior. This project involves the use of BPPU-1 towers with other weapons. Instead of a gun on the swing block placed a KPVT machine gun. Therefore, it managed to get a good combination of a comfortable combat module and firepower that was in line with the MIA goals.
