OOCL Germany arrives to the Port of Felixstowe from her last port of Wilhemshaven. With a maximum draught of 12.5 metres, a Harwich Haven pilot boards at the Sunk Pilot Station which is roughly 12 nautical miles out in the North Sea. Once onboard the pilot radios Harwich VTS to confirm that they are inbound for Felixstowe Berth 8. VTS replies there was a ready berth planned port side to. They continued with the wind on the Landguard and height of tide. The pilot requests three tugs for berthing. First at 7&8 Buoys to make fast centre lead aft. Second also outside the harbour on the starboard quarter then make fast. Finally the third inside the harbour on a bow to bow for a port swing off the berth. Svitzer Deben leaves the harbour to be the centre lead aft tug, Svitzer Shotley follows the Deben out a few minutes later to escort the Germany on the starboard quarter into the harbour. Approaching the Platters, the pilot gets the Deben to move out onto port quarter at full line load for a powered indirect, the Deben begins to creates a list as the power increases. As this is happening, Svitzer Sky makes their way towards the Beach End where they wait for the OOCL Germany to reduce speed to about 6 knots as they round the Beach End and onto a Northerly heading. Sky makes their approach to make fast centre lead forward as the speed drops off even more. The pilot gets the Deben to lean back 25% to help slow her down even more before going all easy. Sky all fast, they stretch their gear ready to work. Deben is asked to go back astern at 25% before transferring the power onto the starboard side. Shotley moves out onto the starboard quarter and winds up to full power. Sky moves onto the port shoulder and takes the bow around. Steadily the OOCL Germany swings to port. The Britiannia Seaways was on reduced speed to let the OOCL Germany swing before they entered the harbour for Felixstowe Ro-Ro4. Soon as the Germany was pushing up to the berth the ferry swooped past. Final tie up 6, 2 and 2 each end with springs first fore and aft. Departure 13:30 Saturday 10th November. 13.7 metre draught for Port Klang, Malaysia.
