A Ladakhi Wedding Celebration Along The Road

Guide Nubu was a nice person but not the swiftest card in the deck. I repeatedly told him, "Watch for unique happenings along the road"...over and over again. Driving towards Pangong Lake, driver Panjara sped past a group of finely dressed Ladakhis sitting next to the road. I shrieked, "Stop" while guide Nubu sat with his finger up his ..... What did he think I meant by "unique"? Was I speaking in forked tongues? " Seriously irritated, Steve and I jumped out of the 4x4 to find out what was happening. It was a local Ladakhi wedding lunch near Dubuk. The bride and groom dressed in gold were surrounded by locals who were snarfing momos, tea and strong liquor. Bridal couple would then make their way to several more celebratory lunches in the area before calling it a day. The lovely Ladakhis wanted us to join the festivities, drink tea and celebrate but since the newlyweds were on their way to the town and we had places to go, we regretfully declined thanking them for one more highlight in Ladakh.
