The Income Tax Department recently conducted raids at half a dozen places of a prominent Delhi/Srinagar based organisation on suspicion of tax evasion and terror links. The unnamed big ticket tax evader was found to have many properties and assets in different businesses and did not file income tax returns. The fact is that the Income Tax department has a very sophisticated and state of the art data collection mechanism and it is very unlikely that such large scale tax evaders are not discovered for decades by them. The logical conclusion would be that the are hand in glove with the system and are well protected by it.
