2022 Lonach Gathering march sets off from Bellabeg through Strathdon in the Cairngorms, Scotland
The iconic march of the Lonach Highlanders for the Lonach Highland Gathering & Games retuned in August 2022. Led by the 3 Highlanders with their Lochaber axes and the Lonach Pipe Band, the Lonach Highlanders from Clan Forbes, Gordon and Wallace, march out from Bellabeg as they make their way through Strathdon in the Cairngorms National Park, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, with their ceremonial Swords, Lochaber axes and eight-foot long pikes. At the front is James Wilson Mitchell on his police bike, then the 3 Lonach Highlanders with their Lochaber axes, followed by the Lonach Pipe band led Drum Major Neil Jamieson and Pipe Major Alistair Laing. On the march are also guest Drum Majors Bert Summers and Bill Barclay. Bringing up the rear is Derek with Socks the Lonach horse, there to carry any stragglers during the march. The Highlanders are members of The Lonach Highland and Friendly Society, formed in 1823 and made up of men from the Strathdon area of Aberdeenshire in Scotland. Many of the Lonach Highlanders are from Clan Forbes, but there are also Wallace and Gordon clans, represented by the different tartans. The band wear Gordon tartan and the Wallace men are wearing the red tartan.
