Tongariro Crossing Pt 1 - Climbing Mount Doom HD

Part 1 of 2 trekking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in Tongariro National Park in the North Island of New Zealand. It is a 19 kilometer hike through volcanic territory. It is in the oldest national park in the country and it is widely accepted as one of the top day treks to do in the world. Several scenes of the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed in the Tongariro National Park. The most famous being Mount Ngauruhoe, whose frame was enhanced to become Mount Doom as we know it in the movies. It did feel like I was hiking through Mordor, except with snow at the top of the volcano instead of lava. My next video will be completing the Tongariro Crossing.
