Eddie Rambeau – “Summertime Guy” (UK Stateside) 1962 HD

07.04.2016
Written by Chuck Barris. Arranged by Frank Slay. Eddie Rambeau’s first UK release and his third overall. The song was written by future “Gong Show” host, Chuck Barris and the music was later the theme for another TV show, “The Dating Game”, which Chuck produced and which was first broadcast in 1965. Chuck also wrote “Palisades Park”, a #3 Hot-100 hit for Freddy Cannon, also in the summer of 1962. The releases were very close; “Palisades Park” was Swan 4106 and “Summertime Guy” Swan 4112. Philadelphia born Chuck was deemed to have too close a tie to the record business in that city and Swan Records withdrew promotion from “Summertime Guy”. “Palisades Park” was unaffected as it had already found momentum. But Eddie Rambeau did make it to the Top-30 that year when a dance song he wrote with long time partner, Bud Rehak, “The Push And Kick” reached #27 for Mark Valentino as Christmas 1962 was approaching. “The Push And Kick” was one of two Rambeau-Rehak songs recorded by Dee Dee Sharp; the other being the northern soul favorite, “Deep Dark Secret”.
