The 2020 ADS-B mandate has the entire aviation industry buzzing, and ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, had the chance to take a test flight to see the operation of a system being produced by L-3 Avionics. Jim flew with, and then interviewed, their chief pilot, Todd Scholten, for a firsthand preview of the product they have named, Lynx. Scholten says the Lynx family of ADS-B ranges from a portable system to a full panel mounted system. Scholten said the Lynx products were designed to meet the numerous variables involved in interfacing with existing avionics, yet they also supply a stand-alone Lynx system as well. Jim asked Scholten to take him through a phase-of-flight demonstration of the Lynx system in operation.
