6 years in the making. This has become well rounded enough for me to consider this a success. I don’t see any reason to continue recording new versions from this point on. The layers in this version were recorded at the end of last month, the bass naked on the 27th and bass lurch on the 31st, and the majority of the mixing and editing was done just recently. I managed to eventually get the heartbeat emphasis in there in the end, but it is very deep in the mix and is only there to add the smallest amount of kick to the bassline in a set-up where sub-frequencies are important. To top it all off I put some tape hiss in there to keep that analogue feel overall. The main drive behind this has always been that it’s a hobby of mine, and that I would gain a great amount of gratification if I could pull something like this off, and actually capture that Howell sound. But I’ve realised the by-product of this is that it now provides people with an accurate and authentic recreation of this particular bassline, for those who may not be as fortunate to own the actual original. A lot of time and dedication has gone into this.
