Dr. Ardem Patapoutian is a Nobel Prize laureate for the year 2021 in the fields of Physiology or Medicine. Dr. Patapoutian shares with us his insight into science and research and their role in advancing our knowledge of the natural world. He identified and characterized the mechanosensors that allow us to feel touch and pain, help us position our body within our environment, and play a role in the function of several internal organs. His fundamental contributions to science earned him the 2020 Kavli Prize in Neuroscience and ultimately the 2021 Nobel Prize in physiology or Medicine. His journey to excellence is a testament to the power of the human will. Our guest for the month of February is Dr. Charles Elachi, former Director of JPL and Vice President of Caltech. He led JPL & NASA to become the world leaders in the field of spaceborne imaging radars. Dr. Elachi is currently professor emeritus at Caltech and a science investigator on several space missions. He continues to pursue his research interests in Earth and planetary remote sensing as well as space robotic exploration.
