Centre seeks Supreme Court approval to widen roads for Char Dham highway project HD
The centre seeks supreme court approval to widen roads up to 10 meters in the northern sector of Uttarakhand. Reportedly, the centre expressed concern over huge build-up on the Chinese side of the road. Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the Central government, said that the roads need to be wide and strong. He also talked about the border problem with China and urged the supreme court to modify the previous decision. In the previous hearing, Venugopal had said that the Army needs the widening of roads up to the China border. However, earlier the court had said that the widths cannot be more than 5.5 meters. Reportedly, environmentalists raised objections over the Char Dham project and said that it can create environmental issues. Times Now - Times Now News channel examines news with in-depth analysis.
