The 2016 Acura TLX offers reliability, style, and premium amenities, while sharing much of its architecture with the Honda Accord. However, while the Accord delivers impressive cost-effectiveness, the TLX runs nearly $10,000 more. Is the modest horsepower bump, leather upholstery, and high-end audio system worth it? Both the Accord and the TLX employ a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine in base trims and a 3.5-liter V6 in more powerful trims. The TLX, though, enjoys more power from both engines, with the 4-cylinder delivering 204 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque, as compared with the 4-cylinder Accord’s 185 hp and 181 lb-ft. Likewise, the 3.5-liter V6 in the TSX pumps out 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque—more than 278 hp and 252 lb-ft in the V6 Accord. The V6-powered TSXs are equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission and can be had with all-wheel drive—something unavailable on the Accord. Tack on an upscale interior, strong safety ratings, and impressive fuel economy numbers, and it’s easy to see the appeal of the Acura.
