Energy Security in the EU: Responding to the Effects of the Ukraine Invasion HD

EsadeGeo and the Repsol Foundation are organising a series of two webinars to provide deep analysis of the impacts of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the EU’s energy system and relations. This first webinar will focus on the EU’s energy security in the wake of the conflict. As a result of the invasion, basic pillars of the EU’s energy security have been intensely questioned and scrutinized, and a significant policy overhaul has been put into motion. On May 18, the European Commission launched the REPowerEU plan, detailing the actions to be taken to end dependence on Russian fossil fuels while also tackling the climate crisis. In this webinar, speakers will discuss the REPowerEU plan, the effects of the war on the EU’s energy security, and to what extent the plan tackles three overarching challenges: affordability of energy, reducing reliance on Russian energy, and accelerating the energy transition towards climate neutrality.
