Friction Stir Welder for a Production Contract Welding Environment - Model GG-1 HD
Precision multi-axis friction stir welding (FSW) machine for the production of heat exchangers. This MTI-built friction stir welding machine was designed to weld and process various metals, including Aluminum alloys, Titanium, steels, and high-temperature alloys. The machine’s work envelope encompasses the X, Y, and Z-axis on a 108-inch bed. The machine’s gantry moves along the X-axis and allows the traversing weld head to move between the gantry’s legs in the Y-axis. The gantry’s crossbeam also moves vertically in the Z-axis, allowing the spindle’s rotary tilt positioner to move the gimbal assembly in virtually any position to accommodate any common geometric shape or surface for optimal process configuration. The multi-axis CNC control, coupled with an user-friendly touch screen operator interface, includes features for executing and repeating a sequence of welds. The electrically and vector controlled main spindle, operating at 100-3000 RPM, provides for constant torque at 750 RPM, and lower, for heavy section welding. Constant power is provided for spindle speeds above the rating point all the way up to the maximum speed of the motor and spindle. A solid-state joining process, Friction Stir Welding creates extremely high-quality, high-strength joints with low distortion. In friction stir welding both parts are stationary and the relative motion is created by a rotating pin tool.
