Free video lesson -- fix your #1 hidden serve mistake right now: bit.ly/your-hidden-serve-mistake Today we are going to talk about the tennis approach shot, specifically on the backhand side. I see a lot of people miss tennis approach shots on the backhand. One of the big reasons players miss their backhand approach shot is because they wrap their arms too fast over their shoulder. This causes players to pull off the ball and lose control. The good news is that I have a solution and it involves finishes with your hands in front by using a short follow through. This finish will allow you to direct the ball where you want it to go while keeping your swing more compact. This type of finish really worked for me when I played on the ATP tour when I wanted to take backhands early and come to the net. So give this a shot...finish with your hands out in front of you with the racquet on edge. You will get the right combination of drive and spin on your tennis approach shot. Another key concept to focus on is to actually hold your hands up longer than you think after completing the tennis approach shot. "Holding the finish" allows you to take care of the shot first before rushing into the next shot. You will clear the net and be more consistent when you "hold the finish." So...the next time when you are hitting your backhand tennis approach shot, try and finish short with your hands in front.
