ELIJAH CRAIG 12 SMALL BATCH From the Heaven Hill distillery (family owned and operated since 1935). Situated in Kentucky, USA. This 12yo was discontinued in 2016 and replaced with a ‘no age statement’ whiskey. Elijah Craig named after the Baptist preacher who was in a sense the father of Kentucky Bourbon. He matured his bourbon in oak barrels damaged in a fire and started the charred oak barrel concept. Small Batch means less than 100 barrels. Traditional Straight bourbon – 70 to 80% corn + rye + barley Matured in charred American oak barrels. Bottled at 47% ABV. COLOUR Melted sugar NOSE Toffee, candy sweetness, stewed fruits, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, resin, charred oak, banana. TASTE Full bodied, creamy, sweet corn syrup, vanilla, salted butterscotch, stewed apples, aniseed, spice. FINISH Full bodied, medium length, creamy sweetness, vanilla, toasted oak spices. FOOD PAIRING RECOMMENDATIONS: Popcorn, caramel coated popcorn, caramelized nuts or hard or mature cheese.
