A worthwhile exercise in language learning is to isolate and focus on individual sounds. These individual sounds are called "phonemes" and every word is made up of a number of "phonemes" . The number of phonemes in Gaeilge is larger than the number of phonemes in English. This in a large part is due to consonants having both a slender and broad phoneme. You will have become familiar with some of these sounds over the last few weeks and now we will take a closer look at some more.
