Ducks Working in Rice Paddies (IPM) HD
Fifteen kilometres south east of Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, ducks are surveying the rice paddies. They eat insects that are pests on the rice and also carry diseases from plant to plant. That is IPM of the best kind. The ducks also stir up the mud making fertility more available to the plants. In the past, the traditional low-input, hi-nutrient tall varieties of rice worked really well with integrated systems like with ducks, floating azolla, eels and tiny fish.
