Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history and Canada’s head of state, has died at 96. The Queen died peacefully on Thursday in her Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle, and had several members of the Royal Family there, including Charles who is next in line to ascend to the throne. He will be known as King Charles III. "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow," the Royal Family twitter post said. News of her death came after Buckingham Palace officials took the rare step of issuing a public comment on her health, saying that doctors had recommended for her to remain under medical supervision as they were concerned for her health.
