Fodder Scam case: RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav now faces 7 years of jail

Just two days after the Congress celebrated the 2G verdict hailing it as a vindication for the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government and a victory for justice comes a massive blow both to the Congress and to the anti-BJP front. A special CBI court in Ranchi today found RJD Chief and Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav guilty in a Fodder Scam case. One of the 6 cases that Lalu faces with a conviction being handed down to him for the second time. Today Lalu is among 16 people found guilty of embezzling more than 89 lakh rupees from govt treasury funds for payments to non-existent companies for purchase and supply of cattle fodder in Bihar. The total irregularities found by the CBI in all the Fodder Scam cases, many of which are still pending amount to a whopping 950 crore. The cases date back to the early 1990s when Lalu was Bihar Chief Minister, a case was filed in 1996 and today 21 years later Lalu has been found guilty, 6 of the accused including Former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra were acquitted. The questions is simply this isn’t today’s court verdict a massive embarrassment to the UPA and a huge blow to the anti-Modi, anti-BJP front? And if the newly anointed Congress President Rahul Gandhi can hail the 2G verdict saying justice has been done and truth has prevailed. Will he now also accept that his party is in alliance with a tainted leader? is the Congress willing to dump Lalu? Rahul Gandhi called the Gujarat poll results a moral victory for the Congress is today’s court verdict a moral defeat for the party? And is Lalu now the biggest chink in the UPA armour as it gets set to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019?
