The record number of entries is an indication of the standing of the competition: young singers are increasingly attracted not only by the €70,000 total prize money on offer but also the opportunity to showcase their talent to the world’s greatest opera singers, professors and impresarios, thereby potentially boosting their career into the stratosphere.
