POMC - Appetite Suppression Science HD
This video was inspired by a client who, after many unsuccessful attempts to lose weight and keep it off, decided to try a combination weight loss drug called Naltrexone/Bupropion. This weight loss drug targets the Pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC), a catabolic signaling network in our hypothalamus thereby suppressing appetite and increasing energy expenditure. However, I have talked about POMC in my videos before, in particular my "High-Protein vs. High-Fiber: Fullness Factor or Facade?" video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z5OGM3BZuo References: 1) Dietary Resistant Starch Increases Hypothalamic POMC Expression in Rats- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/18948970/ 2) Fermentable carbohydrate alters hypothalamic neuronal activity and protects against the obesogenic environment- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/22322344/ 3) Proanthocyanidins potentiate hypothalamic leptin/STAT3 signalling and Pomc gene expression in rats with diet-induced obesity- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5220160/ 4) Effects of dietary polyphenols on neuroregulatory factors and pathways that mediate food intake and energy regulation in obesity- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/23125162/ 5) Nitric Oxide Exerts Basal and Insulin-Dependent Anorexigenic Actions in POMC Hypothalamic Neurons- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5414647/ 6) Fermented Barley Supplementation Modulates the Expression of Hypothalamic Genes and Reduces Energy Intake and Weight Gain in Rats- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/27074621/ 7) Effects of black adzuki bean (Vigna angularis, Geomguseul) extract on body composition and hypothalamic neuropeptide expression in rats fed a high-fat diet- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/26493717/
