P&ID Creation Using AutoCAD Plant 3D: Pumping Station Design with the AEC Collection HD
With AutoCAD Plant 3D you can create the schematic diagrams necessary for all aspects of Water/Waster Water design and use the generated database to direct the plant modeling process later in the design cycle. Script: The piping and instrumentation diagram or P&ID is the schematic design on which our piping model is based. It is a visual representation of key piping and instrument details. In this example, we first place a pump and then the lines to and from the pump. Flow arrows are placed as the piping lines are drawn and can be reversed as necessary. We can set the line size and specification through annotation and then proceed to insert valves which automatically aligns to and inherits the size from the line, inserting a reducer automatically creates a size break in the line. Any update to the line specification will be automatically reflected in the part labelling. We can continue the pump configuration by defining the outlet piping, inserted check valves automatically align with the flow direction of the line. When control valves are defined the valve body and the actuator are designated to ensure the correct graphical representation as well as correctly defining the valve in the database, and at the same time the loop number and type can also be described. Drain valves can be set as normally closed which automatically changes the symbol representation. Once the first pump configuration is complete we simply use AutoCAD functions to duplicate the pump configurations. The Data Manager gives the user access to the database. It is possible to use the export and import capability that allows engineers to input engineering information in a spreadsheet format and then import that data directly into the P&ID. The Data Manager also provides a variety of reports such as Equipment Lists, Valve Lists and Line Lists that can be generated directly from the database. Once the P&ID schematic has been completed, it can then be used as the basis of the plant3d model. The P&ID database can be accessed from the line list and properties panel to ensure the correct specifications are used throughout the modeling process.
