Raspberry PI 2, 10 Min install of WIndows 10 for IoT 10.0.10586.0 HD
This is a new multipart series on how to install the December 2015 build of Windows 10 IoT for the Raspberry PI 2. In this the first video we will look how to download the image and utilities, create the SD card and then boot up on an HDMI screen for the first time to verify it is all working. I have focused only on the SD card, testing the boot and the minimal regarding preparing windows 10 PC in order to keep the video small Pre requisits are that you have a PC with Windows 10 installed and it is upto date. and a working micro SD card Reader/Writer attached to the PC. Visual Studio 15 with Update 1 is recomended but not essential for this activity, without it you wont be able to get much done with your PI 2 once windows 10 IoT is installed as this is the only way to develop and deploy your apps currently. You will need to download the latest IoT image from Microsoft and load it onto an SD card prior to booting on the PI. Here is the basic documentation on this process from MS. :- https://ms-iot.github.io/content/en-US/GetStarted.htm You can download Visual Studio from here :- http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=534599 and Update 1 from here:- http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=691134 The core templates here :- https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/55b357e1-a533-43ad-82a5-a88ac4b01dec Finally an IoT dashboard from here http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=708576 For the PI 2, the basic instructions are here:- https://ms-iot.github.io/content/en-US/win10/RPI.htm Download the image from here :- http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691711 Docs and sample apps can be found here :- http://ms-iot.github.io/content/en-US/win10/StartCoding.htm For SD cards I would go with the MS recomendations or better Sandisk 16GB or 32GB providing a 48MB/s read/write https://www.sandisk.com/home/memory-cards/microsd-cards/ultra-microsd-for-cameras Samsung Pro or Evo 16 or 32GB providing 90MB/S on the Pro and 48/24MB/s read/write on the EVO http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/memory-storage-accessories/MB-MP16DA/AM http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/memory-storage/memory-cards/micro-sd/MB-MP32DA/APC and the best in this selection http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/memory-storage/memory-cards/micro-sd/MB-MG32DA/APC The Samsung pro truely delivers more than double the speed of the others in Boot times. I have tried all of the above SD cards except the Samsung EVO.
