Patients who have cirrhosis are usually asymptomatic, but they may develop certain signs and symptoms during the late stage, including asterixis, fetor hepaticus, jaundice, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, spider angiomas, ascites, gynecomastia, and hyperammonemia Nursing interventions for cirrhosis include- Monitoring for hemorrhage and abnormal glucose levels Nutrition intervention; patients presenting with confusion due to hepatic encephalopathy require a low protein diet. However, if they present without confusion, they need a high lean protein diet, low sodium, fluid restriction, assessing for rupture of varices, lactulose administration. Medical and surgical management of liver cirrhosis entails- Liver transplant Paracentesis to remove fluid from the abdomen due to ascites Pharmacological interventions like diuretics, blood products, vitamin K, beta-blockers, or nitrates.
