Railroad Street Running in Olympia 11/4/2014 HD

06.11.2014
My friend Jim Younkins and I caught Tacoma Rail switching the Port of Olympia on this rainy overcast day. When it appeared the train was about to leave the port, we ran up to catch the train leaving town doing its street running thing, The port receives fracking sand by ship from China and ships several car loads to North Dakota weekly. The sand is received in large blue bags. Primary conveyance to North Dakota is by 2 bay hopper cars. To do so, the blue bags are opened and the sand is loaded in the top of the hoppers using a conveyor. Sometimes the sand is shipped in box cars. This is accomplished by loading the blue bags in the box cars using a large fork lift. Tacoma Rail moves cars from the port to an interchange with BNSF and Union Pacific at East Olympia.
