Vlog #4: We Joined 3 Tiny House Communities this Spring HD
Our latest tiny house travels have taken us from NC, VA, MD, PA and DC. We temporarily joined 3 very different tiny house communities, as part of our on-going exploration of the tiny house movement. We are nomads, weaving a rich community network wherever we go across the country. Not defined by geographic boundaries but defined by in-person connections, open minds, and shared experiences. Communities Visited: Autumn Sun Community in Ashland, VA -a forming intentional community, http://autumnsunlane.com Baltimore County, MD - mini-farm/informal backyard village; home of Jill, the creator of http://searchtinyhousevillages.com Tiny Estates in Elizabethtown, PA -tiny house resort community, https://tiny-estates.com Email Response to LeAnna about how-to tow her tiny house shell: “Congrats— that’s super exciting! We love your mobile art studio/home concept. Hope to cross paths with you during your travels. So happy to you took our advice and went with the 18’, and also that you are part of LATCH Collective— such a wonderful community. :) -Watch our how-to Tiny House Travel videos, especially Part 1 & 2 and the Installing a Brake Controller System: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlvBXhDyr9H0ORrxRVJcZAwSY7zk6nznE -You’ll want to use 17’ or 20’ U-Haul box truck -You’ll need a 2 and 5/16th ball and a Reese hitch— see the links the video description to what you need and where you can find it. Also, U-Haul should carries these items. -We recommend renting from a U-Haul Moving & Storage location. More likely to have towing accessories listed above. Buy in advance. -No need to tell them what you plan to tow, as some employees are hip to what corporate because the company is so spread and communication is not always clear. -If haven’t already, check out our tiny house travel course: http://www.tinyhouseexpedition.com/tiny-house-travel-webinar -Early towing advice: practice, practice, practice with your trailer, especially with turning and backing up. We highly recommend having a friend help you with backing up. Plan on renting the truck ahead of time, just for practice, if no other truck is available. -Also when you’re tiny is built and ready to hit the road, look into the trip insurance now offered by http://www.insuremytinyhome.com. We don’t have this but have heard good things, and will be looking into soon. Best wishes with the move and the build! Please let us know if you have additional questions.
