Ukrainian forces gunfire exchange with Russian backed forces in Mariupol compound HD
Footage released by Azov regiment on Thursday showed gunfire exchanges in a compound in Mariupol. Kyiv says it is likely that tens of thousands of people have been killed in Mariupol since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 and laid siege to the city, where food, water, power and heating supplies were cut off weeks ago. Mariupol was home to more than 400,000 people before the war but is now an urban wasteland. Following mass evacuations, some arranged by the U.N. and ICRC, local authorities say Mariupol has between 150,000 and 170,000 residents left The Azov Battalion was set up in 2014 as a group comprising pro-Ukrainian nationalist volunteers who fought against pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. Kyiv later incorporated the Azov fighters as a regiment in its National Guard. Russia accuses the group of being a neo-Nazi organisation, an allegation Ukraine rejects as pure propaganda. Reuters verified the location of video released by Azov, as matched by public amenities, paved road and buildings seen on satellite and file images.
