Chanelle always had a passion for swimming at an early age and that passion pushed her into becoming the college swim captain at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. However, while on vacation with family things took a turn for the worse. She was struck and run over by a car leaving her paralyzed. This traumatic experience did not deter her. She was determined to be independent and after 5 months she once again wiggled her toes. Her goals progressed and the idea of getting back in the pool went form a dream to a reality. She again was swimming and competing again. Her determined spirit inspired her to volunteer to help others that have an injury. In doing so, she has become and idol to them. Reflecting on her tragedy, she believes that it surprisingly brought something positive. Despite the accidents challenges, she has become more driven and motivated to accomplish goals and it has opened doors to new opportunities and experiences. Although there are still bumps in the road, it is clear that her determination is a feat that is inspiring. Congratulations on receiving the Amway Hero Award for Determination, Chanelle!
