Taiwan's top female and male badminton players Tai Tzu-ying and Chou Tien-cheng clinched their respective singles titles at the Taipei Open Sunday. It was the fourth time for both of them to win this championship, and the first time for Taiwan to hold the event after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic. Tai faced off against Japan's Saena Kawakami in the women's singles final. While Tai took an early lead in both games, Kawakami was never far behind her. Tai prevailed, winning 21-17 and 21-16 in straight sets. In the men's singles final, Chou faced off against Japanese player, Kodai Naraoka. Naraoka won the first game 21-14, but Chou made a comeback to win the next two games, 21-10 and 21-6. Taiwan's Olympic gold medalists Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin failed to win the men's doubles and were defeated by Malaysians Tee Kai Wun and Man Wei Chong 1:2.
