It’s a guessing game which of our favorite X-Men will be appearing in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, but the veil of secrecy is slowly lifting and we’re sharing details on which characters have been confirmed and some info on the film’s plot! It’s been four months since Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past hit theaters and revitalized the franchise and it should come as no surprise that Singer will officially return to helm Apocalypse . If you saw the Days of Future Past end credit scene, you were introduced to the new villain - an ancient being known simply as “Apocalypse” who amongst several amazing feats, helps give the world its great pyramids, is protected by the Four Horsemen, and tries to take over said world. When Apocalypse is awakened from his ancient slumber, the X-Men must band together against his threat against Earth. So far, details of the plot other than knowing Apocalypse is our primary antagonist are limited, but our knowledge of what characters will be appearing isn’t so unknown. Co-writer Simon Kinberg has confirmed the story will take place in 1983, connecting First Class’s 1960’s setting and Days of Future Past’s 1970’s background. And with a now-altered time line, the doors are wide open for rewriting the X-Men history of the 80’s and having a few digs at the time period as well. We know for sure the cast of characters will include James McAvoy’s “Professor X” and Michael Fassbender’s “Magneto” as well as Wolverine, Raven, and Beast. Additionally, given Quicksilver’s standout scenes in Future Past it would be absurd for Singer to not include him in a more major manner. It’s also been confirmed that we’ll see original X-Men Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm return, but as the film takes place nearly 20 years before the original X-Men, the roles will need to be recast with younger actors. But they may not be the only classic characters to return. Singer’s told CinePREMIERE that he’s considering a young Nightcrawler and Gambit for Apocalypse. We learned back in May that Channing Tatum is the new pick for gambler Remy Labeau, also known as Gambit, but details have been sketchy on whether we’ll see Tatum as the southern charmer with kinetic energy powers in X-Men: Apocalypse or if he’ll instead make his debut in a standalone film first. Time will tell and until we get an official confirmation, fans can only hope we’ll see Gambit’s cane make a crack in Apocalypse.
