Yurchenko Hurdle RO drill

25.04.2011
This video is a video demonstration* of a Yurchenko drill discussed in the article "Teaching a great Yurchenko layout vault" Gym Coach Journal Vol 5, 2011. (video discussion read on) "When the gymnast becomes confident and consistent with his/her RO straight jump, an obstacle can be placed in-front (VIDEO) of the panel mat to encourage the snap up of the torso, predominantly the shoulders and head. The size of the object depends on the size and speed of the gymnast" * Note: This is not ment to show a perfect example but a fair demonstration. The gymnast in the video is in the process of perfecting this drill/movement. In this example the gymnast needs to work on a stronger leg back leg (in this case left leg) drive, that will help him block of the left hand. The gymnast also must work on impacting the springboard with tighter ankles without allowing his fleet to flatten out, as well as he needs to lift his eye gaze up in order to allow him to have a more vertical take-off. He allows his body to hollow to much which keeps his Center of Mass behind his feet sending up backward as well as upward. Even though there are some mistakes in this example is a good start.
